I have this theory that relates to Twitter…

Did you see the Ted Cruz drama on twitter this week? So, everyone noticed that this guy’s twitter account liked a porn video posted by some porn account. Then, of course, everyone ran with it assuming this guy has some closet porn watching going on whilst preaching against such horrors. He probably does have some kind of ethics contradicting issue, but that has nothing to do with this controversy or my theory really. Here’s my theory:

Everyone that you think is a rich celebrity or famous person that is on Twitter is not really that person when you interact with them.

They pay people to do these things for them. They have assistants and staff that log in to their accounts to “manage their social media.” I’m sure that every once in a while these people actually jump on twitter and make some posts just to say they interact with their audience or their constituents, but for the most part it’s my opinion that it’s likely some “Social Media Manager” 95% of the time. I would love to think that when I tweet David Hasselhoff (@DavidHasselhoff) that it is really him replying to me when I ask him for advice. The reality is that it’s just not him, and no matter how funny it would be if Ted Cruz really did accidentally like a porn video on twitter…it probably didn’t happen. Does that mean that Ted Cruz doesn’t really like the porno? No. It just means that what probably happened was the kid that has access to his twitter account knows that he likes the porno and decided to show the world. Either that or Teddy boy said some asshole thing to one of his assistants, and that assistant decided that he or she would get some revenge.

It’s kind of a hard thing to navigate though. There are exceptions. For example, I’m about 99% sure that Kevin Smith (@thatkevinsmith) and Marc Bernardin (@marcbernardin) are actually running their own twitter accounts. Kev has over 3 million followers, but I’m pretty sure he’s high enough to just jump on twitter and interact with folks.  He’s cool like that, or at least I imagine that he is (Mental note: go check out the things Kevin Smith has liked on twitter). Ted Cruz just isn’t that guy. Donald Trump just isn’t that guy. Does anyone out there actually believe that Donald Trump really posts all these crazy things on Twitter? In my mind it’s all some kind of staged thing to get everyone fired up.

I could be wrong.  Look what I just did…I told you all your twitter people are fake, but then I gave you two people that I follow that MUST be real. Maybe it’s all just fantasy. Maybe it’s better for us to just pretend that we’re interacting with real people when we’re doing the opposite. Whatever, I am still going to hold on to my theory that the famous people we interact with aren’t really those people. Even if it means I am tweeting Fat Man on Batman’s assistant…
